Cryptography is the science of securing communication and data by transforming information into coded formats that are unreadable to unauthorized individuals. It ensures that sensitive information remains confidential, authentic, and unaltered during transmission and storage.

How It Works

Cryptography employs algorithms and mathematical techniques to encode data into ciphertext, which can only be decrypted back into its original form with the correct cryptographic keys. There are two main types: symmetric encryption, where the same key is used for both encryption and decryption, and asymmetric encryption, which uses a pair of keys — a public key for encryption and a private key for decryption. These methods rely on complex algorithms that make it computationally infeasible for attackers to reverse-engineer the original data without the appropriate keys.

Additionally, cryptography encompasses techniques such as hashing, digital signatures, and certificates to verify data integrity, authenticate identities, and establish secure communication channels. These tools work together to create a secure environment where data can be transmitted and stored with confidence that it has not been tampered with or accessed by unauthorized parties.
