A Yagi antenna is a directional antenna commonly used in telecommunications and broadcasting to transmit or receive signals in a specific direction. It is known for its high gain and narrow beamwidth, making it effective for point-to-point communication or long-distance reception.

How It Works

A Yagi antenna consists of multiple elements arranged along a central boom. These elements include a driven element, which is connected to the transmitter or receiver, as well as one or more parasitic elements such as reflectors and directors. The driven element is typically a dipole, while the parasitic elements are tuned to specific lengths to enhance signal directionality. When a signal is transmitted or received, the parasitic elements help focus the electromagnetic energy in a particular direction, increasing gain and reducing interference from other directions.

The design of the Yagi antenna allows it to concentrate radio waves in a narrow beam, which improves signal strength and quality over longer distances.
