Power efficiency measures how effectively a system or device converts electrical power into useful work or output. It is expressed as a ratio or percentage, indicating the proportion of input power that is successfully used for its intended purpose without waste.

How It Works

Power efficiency is calculated by dividing the useful power output by the total power input and then multiplying by 100 to get a percentage. For example, if a device consumes 100 watts of power but only provides 80 watts of useful output, its efficiency is 80 percent. Improving efficiency involves reducing losses such as heat, resistance, or other forms of energy dissipation within the system. Components like transformers, power supplies, and motors are often designed to maximize efficiency through better materials, design, and engineering practices.
