A haptic interface is a system that enables users to interact with a computer or digital environment through bodily sensations and movements. It often provides force feedback or tactile stimuli to simulate the sensation of touch, pressure, or texture, creating a more immersive experience.

How It Works

Haptic interfaces typically consist of hardware devices such as gloves, joysticks, styluses, or exoskeletons equipped with actuators that generate forces, vibrations, or motions. These actuators respond to software commands based on the virtual environment or digital content, translating digital interactions into physical sensations. Sensors within the device detect user movements and gestures, allowing real-time feedback and interaction. The combination of sensors and actuators creates a bidirectional communication channel, enabling users to feel virtual objects as if they were real.

The system processes user inputs and virtual environment data to produce appropriate feedback. For example, when a user touches a virtual button, the haptic device applies a force that mimics the resistance or texture of a real button, enhancing realism and immersion.
