A gyroscope is a device that measures or maintains orientation and angular velocity. It detects rotational motion and helps determine the position of an object in space, often without relying on external references.

How It Works

A gyroscope operates based on the principles of angular momentum. Traditional mechanical gyroscopes consist of a spinning rotor mounted on gimbals, which allows the rotor to remain fixed in its orientation regardless of the movement of the outer frame. Modern electronic gyroscopes, such as MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) gyroscopes, use tiny vibrating structures or sensors that detect changes in angular velocity through Coriolis forces. These sensors convert physical motion into electrical signals that can be interpreted by electronic systems.
