A biometric identification system is a technology that recognises individuals by analysing unique biological traits, such as fingerprints, facial features, iris patterns, or voice patterns. It provides a reliable method of verifying identity based on physical or behavioural characteristics that are difficult to forge or duplicate.

How It Works

Biometric identification systems operate by capturing a biometric sample from an individual using specialised sensors or cameras. This sample is then processed and converted into a digital template, which is stored securely in a database. When an individual attempts to access a system or location, the system captures a fresh biometric sample and compares it against stored templates using pattern recognition algorithms. If the match exceeds a predefined threshold, access is granted or identity is confirmed.

The accuracy and speed of these systems depend on the quality of the biometric sensors, the robustness of the algorithms used, and the quality of the stored templates. Modern systems may incorporate multi-modal biometrics, combining two or more biometric traits to improve reliability and security.
