Biometric authentication is a security process that uses an individual's unique biological traits to confirm their identity. It replaces traditional passwords or PINs with physical or behavioural identifiers, offering a more secure way to verify users.

How It Works

Biometric authentication involves capturing a specific biological characteristic of a person, such as a fingerprint, facial features, or iris patterns, using specialized sensors or cameras. This data is then converted into a digital template, which is stored securely. When authentication is needed, the system captures a fresh sample of the biometric data and compares it to the stored template. If the data matches within a defined threshold, access is granted.

The process often includes multiple steps: enrolment, where the biometric data is initially captured and stored; and verification or identification, where the captured data is compared against stored templates to authenticate the user.
